These oversized utensils were originally used by Vikings to serve mead, an alcohol drink made from fermented honey. The "Flip Dog", a long rod with a flat head, was heated up and then plunged into th pot of mead while the ladle was used to serve the drink. These pieces are hand forged of cast iron and very old. The ladle measures 31.5" long and its scoop is 6" in diameter and the flip dog measures 27.5" long. They are joined together by a metal chain. How cool would they look hanging beside your fire place?
